Languages : English (eng) Abstract: An experiment on crop residue management in rice-wheat system conducted for four successive years ( 1998/99-200 I /02) revealed that residue incorporation with recommended N PK increased both grain yield of rice and wheat crops when 20 kg additional nitrogen was applied at the time of straw incorporation. Mulched treatment with recommended N PK a so produced better yield in both rice and wheat crops. Residue incorporated with recommended N PK only produced similar or less yield to that of recommended NPK treatment only. However, the effects of residue management were seen only after the second year. Thus it is expected that residue management in rice-wheat system will be beneficial in the long run to improve productivity and sustainability of the rice-wheat system.
