Abstract: |
Farmers are experiencing labor and time shortage during wheat sowing as there is less turnaround time between rice harvest and wheat sowing. This study was conducted to find out alternative of traditional tillage method of wheat sowing. Traditional tillage method, relay, surface, zero tillage and power tillage wheat sowing were evaluated. Alternate wheat sowing has created better conditions for water and weed control and allows 20-30 days earlier sowing of wheat and reduced the inherent drudgery in traditional wheat sowing. Farmer's tillage practice is labor intensive, costly and requires about 5-6 times plowing at sowing time and often result in delay sowing of wheat. Mean wheat grain yield under relay, surface, power tillage and zero tillage was more (about 21%) than farmer's tillage method......................... |
