Title : Crop residue management in sustaining production of rice-wheat system Material Type: printed text Authors: J. Tripathi, Author ; T.P Kharel, Author ; Duxbury J.M, Author ; N.K Shakya, Author ; J Lauren, Author Pagination: 166-173 p. Languages : English (eng) Abstract: An experiment on crop residue management in rice-wheat system conducted for four successive years ( 1998/99-200 I /02) revealed that residue incorporation with recommended N PK increased both grain yield of rice and wheat crops when 20 kg additional nitrogen was applied at the time of straw incorporation. Mulched treatment with recommended N PK a so produced better yield in both rice and wheat crops. Residue incorporated with recommended N PK only produced similar or less yield to that of recommended NPK treatment only. However, the effects of residue management were seen only after the second year. Thus it is expected that residue management in rice-wheat system will be beneficial in the long run to improve productivity and sustainability of the rice-wheat system.

Title : Performance of permanent bed planting under rice -wheat - mungbean cropping system Material Type: printed text Authors: G Sah, Author ; M.K.L Karn, Author ; D. Chaudhary, Author ; J.G Lauren, Author ; Duxbury J.M, Author ; S Justice, Author Pagination: 245-253 p. Languages : English (eng) Keywords: Permanent Bed, Cropping System, Mulch Abstract: Permanent raised bed cultivation for rice-wheat cropping system in Nepal is a paradigm shift from the conventional practice of planting on puddled flat land. Permanent beds offer the opportunity to reduce tillage, rebuild soil aggregates and organic matter, reduce irrigation water, and improve nitrogen (N) use. The experiment was initiated during winter season, 2000 and is continued till the date at the Agricultural Implement Research Centre, Birgunj, under split plot design: main plot as field configuration and sub-plot as mulching, with four replications. Since 2002/03, the experiment consists with four treatments e.g. fl.at (T1), flat + mulch (T2), bed (T3), and bed + mulch (T4). Rice and wheat straw were used at the rate of 4 tons/ha in each crop season....................

Title : Tillage and crop establishment interactions in rice-wheat lowland ecosystem Material Type: printed text Authors: J. Tripathi, Author ; Hobbs, P.R., Author ; Duxbury J.M, Author ; N.K Shakya, Author ; J Lauren, Author ; T.P Kharel, Author Pagination: 174-181 p. Languages : English (eng) Abstract: A field experiment was conducted for 5 successive years during 1997/98 from 2001/2002 to study the interaction effects of different tillage and crop establishment techniques on the productivity of rice and wheat crops in a system perspective under lower and middle wet land ecosystem. The experiment consists of eight treatment combinations derived from two tillage practices……………………..
