Abstract: |
Permanent raised bed cultivation for rice-wheat cropping system in Nepal is a paradigm shift from the conventional practice of planting on puddled flat land. Permanent beds offer the opportunity to reduce tillage, rebuild soil aggregates and organic matter, reduce irrigation water, and improve nitrogen (N) use. The experiment was initiated during winter season, 2000 and is continued till the date at the Agricultural Implement Research Centre, Birgunj, under split plot design: main plot as field configuration and sub-plot as mulching, with four replications. Since 2002/03, the experiment consists with four treatments e.g. fl.at (T1), flat + mulch (T2), bed (T3), and bed + mulch (T4). Rice and wheat straw were used at the rate of 4 tons/ha in each crop season.................... |
