Title : Value chain analysis: fishing tourism can support fish conservation and livelihood of fishers Material Type: printed text Authors: Gurung, T.B., Author ; A Thing, Author Pagination: 283-291 p. Languages : English (eng) Abstract: The present study attempts to elucidate using the value chain analysis how fishing tourism or recreational fisheries could be resilient to fish conservation and livelihood of artisanal fishing communities. Fishing tourism is a multi-billion dollar outdoor leisure and time pass activities worldwide. However, it has yet to be systematically regularized and practiced. Nepal has commendable freshwater resources for fishing tourism. It is expected that promotion and streamlining of tourism-based recreational fisheries could generate immense value chain opportunities for artisanal fishers 'the poorest of the poor' and resilient to fish conservation. The value chain analysis showed that household incomes of fishers are likely to be pronouncedly enhanced by involving in fishing-based tourism support services with fewer fishing activities, which in turn could be supportive for fish conservation efforts. The present modality of promoting and systematizing fishing tourism might have implication to address the issues of fish conservation and poverty alleviation in many developing countries having similar socio-economic and agro-ecological setups.
