In the context of changing climate, increasing irrigation is generally not a viable option for extenuating drought problems in rainfed rice-growing systems. Participatory varietal selection (PVS) trials were carried out to identify drought tolerant rice varieties and distribute their quality seed among farmers to increase rice production in rainfed areas.
