Abstract: |
Participatory varietal selection (PVS) is one of the effective methods to select varieties by participating farmers and agricultural scientists and technicians. Mother and baby trials were carried out in Dhanusha, Mahotari and Rautahat in 2009 and 2010 for identification and dissemination of submergence tolerant rice varieties. A total of 65 farmers in 2009 and 118 farmers in 2010 were involved in PVS. Six varieties including three Sub 1 lines in 2009 and eight varieties including three Sub 1 lines in 2010 were evaluated in mother trails and a set of submergence tolerant lines along with local checks were evaluated in baby trials. Submergence tolerant rice lines Swarna Sub1 and Samba Mahsuri Sub1 performed better in both mother and baby trials under flash flood conditions and preferred by farmers in preference ranking……………………. |
