Title : Adaptation and performance of hybrid sunflower/ population in central terai of Nepal Material Type: printed text Authors: T.B Ghimire, Author Publisher: Lalitpur : NARC Publication Date: 2000 Pagination: 150-156 p. Keywords: Grain legumes; Oil crops; Research; Legumes Abstract: Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) cultivation has started recently in some districts of terai region
of Nepal. Hybrid sunflower performed better than population. Looking in to bright prospects of
this crop interai of Nepal, tlte present study was under taken with a view to verify tlte adoption
performance of crop in spring and rainy seasons, and compare tlte performances of hybrids. witlt
composite varieties in respect of yield, a field experiment was conducted at Oilseed Research
Program, Nawalpur Sarlalti during 1998 and 1999 spring as well as rainy season under irrigated
and rainfed condition, respectively. Hybrid sunflower varieties recorded 72 percent higher seed
yield over composite in spring season. Hybrids PAC-36 produced higher seed yield of 2056
kg/ba followed by PAC-302 (2014 kg/Ita) and NSFH-592 (1850 kg/ha) in spring season. In
rainy season PAC-36 recorded highest mean seed yield of 720 kg/Ita followed by Peredovick
(597 kg/Ita).Link for e-copy: http://elibrary.narc.gov.np/?r=573 Adaptation and performance of hybrid sunflower/ population in central terai of Nepal [printed text] / T.B Ghimire, Author . - Lalitpur : NARC, 2000 . - 150-156 p.

Title : Assessment of factors responsible for yield decline in Toria Material Type: printed text Authors: T.B Ghimire, Author Pagination: 41-46 p. Languages : English (eng) Keywords: Fertilizer, pollinator, toria, yield decline Abstract: In order to assess the factors responsible for yield decline in Iorio (Brassica rapa syn. Brassica campestris var. toria), field survey was carried out at Bardiya and Dang in 1999 and Chitwan and Bora in 2000 and field trials were conducted at National Oilseed Research Program (NORP), Nawalpur Sarlahi during 1997/98-199912000. Seed yield decline in toria has been realized and felt throughout the torin growing areas of the kingdom. Low or no use of fertilizer and manures, declining inherent soil fertility, non-adoption of plant protection measures, use of local cultivars, lack of irrigation facility and weeds were identified as the major factors responsible for toria yield decline at farmers' field. Pollinators (honey bees) and chemical fertilizers (NPK) were the two main constraints responsible for toria yield decline at National Oilseed Research Program Nawalpur, Sarlahi, which reduced the seed yield by 46.53% and 29.48% respectively. Full package of practice increased the toria seed yield and net return by 95.48 and 27%, respectively compared to farmer’s practices. Honeybees were helpful in seed setting and oil production in toria.

Title : Inter-cropping of sunflower with maize, groundnut and sesame Material Type: printed text Authors: Mishra, B, Author ; T.B Ghimire, Author Publisher: Lalitpur : NARC Publication Date: 2000 Pagination: 144-149 p. Keywords: Grain legumes; Oil crops; Research; Legumes Abstract: Sunflower (Helianthus ann~us) is newly emerging oilseed crop in Nepal It is grown either
sole or intercrop with maize/ sugarcane/groundnut etc. A field experiment was conducted at
Oilseed Research Program, Nawalpur Sarlahl during 1998 andl999 son to determine the most
compatible and remunerative inter crop · combination of sunflower with other crops. The
experiment was conducted on sandy loam soiltmder irrigated condition in spring season and
rainfed condition in rainy season In general Ute· sunflower seed yield was higher in sole
cropping system in both seasons. Sole sunflower recorded mean seed yield of 1850 kg/ha .in
spring season and 162 kg/ha in rainy season. Among Ute different intercroppiug system,
swlflower + groundnut (1 :3) row proportion recorded highest mean net returns of
Rs.23219/ba wiU1 highest mean LER (1.36). In rainy season, sole maize recorded the highest
mean net returns of Rs.9929/ha. Sunflower+ sesame (1:3) row proportion recorded highest
mean LER (1.42) in rainy season.Link for e-copy: http://elibrary.narc.gov.np/?r=571 Inter-cropping of sunflower with maize, groundnut and sesame [printed text] / Mishra, B, Author ; T.B Ghimire, Author . - Lalitpur : NARC, 2000 . - 144-149 p.
