It also highlights the cattle welfare in the past and present. Based on past experiences it tends to forecast the future of the scientific cattle production and their welfare within Nepal.Nepal's Central Bureau of Statistics 2050/51 estimated a total of 6821430 cattle population which are raised by a total of 2067100 farm families in Nepal. This means that each farm family keeping an estimated number of 3.3 heads of cattle in a diverse environment.Cow is considered as Holly animal and worship during Tihar festival. Oxen and bulls are the main power for farm cultivation. In addition milk is the source for human nutrition and the dung is used as fertilizer.It has been estimated that the existing carrying capacity of all kinds of pasture and rangeland is not capable of producing dry matters even for half of the livestock population existing in the country. Thus, all the ruminant animals are being fed only half of the actual requirement. Therefore, there is a sharp need to initiate a culturally acceptable cattle welfare scheme as soon as possible.
