Abstract: |
Genus Fagopyrum consists Mo cultivated buckwheat species viz. sweet (Fagopyrum esculentumMoench) and biller (Fagopyrum tataricum Gearin) both species are under cultivation since time memorable in Nepal. Buckwheat is one of the mandate crops of Hill Crops Research Program(HCRP). Both buckwheat are important staple food crop in high hills. Bitter buckwheat is more important still in higher elevations common buckwheat also important crops where cropping pattern is veiJ' tight. Considering this, HCRP has been allempting research work on both type of buckwheat since the establishment of Hill Crops Research Program. Even though buckwheat is third mandate crop of HCRP. Such as many types of research works collection, conservation, characterization and Varietal improvement work has been done until now. But unfortunately now not any one variety has been released for general cultivation. suitable package and practices on buckwheat is not available for common farmers. Now some farmers are taking interest in improve technology, processing and uses, aware of its as well as medical values, so there is need to put more effort on buckwheat researchin Nepal. Under varietal improvement work on buckwheat a number of activities have been can-fed out by HC RP; separate sets of sweet and biller buchvheal experiments are being tested. Eighf activities viz. NON (Sweet and biller), JET (Sweet and biller), CVT (Sweet and biller), and FFT (Sweet and bitter) are also being tested under varietal improvement work. This paper consists of finding of ARS Jumla (2350 mas/), HCRP Kahre (I 7-10 mas/) and NMRP Rampur during 2000-2002. On the basis of experiments results conducted during Mo years, the genotypes Acc.#481, Acc.#2288, CBBP-01, CBBP-02, CBBP-03, CBBP-0-1 were fozmd beller in National Observation Nurse1y (Sweet) and genotype Sample #6-1, Acc.#2227, MY-2-27-1, Acc.#5170, Acc.#6506 and Sample #5-l in National Observation NurseiJ' biller set. Genotypes Ac:c:.#2230, Acc.#2227-l, GF-5234, Sample #5-J were found promising in Initial Evaluation hiller set at various location. In CVT (s'tl'eet) genotypes GF-5099, GF-5063, GF-5274 and DARJA were high yielding among the tested genotypes. However, in CVT biller genotypes Kahre biller, Ac:c:.#2227, MY-2-27-1, GF-212 and Acc:.#2230 were found promising at Kahre and Jumla during 2000-2002. Incase of FFT-sweet genot)1Je GF-527-1. GF-5283 and GF-5006 were promising at Kabre area 2001. Similarly genof.\pes GF-527-1 and GF-5289 were found promising at Rampur in 2002. In FFT biller genot)pes Ace. #2223 and Ace:. #2227 were found promising at Jumla. |
