Abstract: |
An on-{arm trial of improved pig raising as an option for income generation for socioeconomically disadvantaged traditiona.l pig raising farmers under the local low feed management condition with the improved shed was conducted in three groups, categorised on the basis offood availabilitjuit Taranagar .ofGorkha district in 1999. Nine households were selectedfor trial purpose and each was given an improved pig (Landrace or Yorkshire cross). The pigs were fed under the local low-input management condition (household cereal- based .foed stUff, leftover food and green leaves). Productive performance (final body weight) of the pig was measured before slaughtering. Cost-benefit analysis revealed that this system is only profitable for households that have raised their pig properly can be a source of income generation. |
