components was conducted during 2055/56 in Nursing of Sunsari and Phulbaria of
Siraha. Rural poullly rearing farmers supplemented information for the completion of
this study with the objective to identify areas of research and services for improvement of
management to the rural poultry in eastern terai region of Nepal. Farmers were
unknown about management practices ofpoultty i.e. breeding, nutrition health care etc.
Chicks' mortality in the eastern terai of Nepal was more than 10- 20% at brooding age
by predators, Coccidiosis, Ne·w Castle disease, Fowl pox and parasitic infoctions.
Farmers ignored fi"equency of vaccination, system of breeding, deworming to their birds.
Non availability of some of the important dr ·gs and vaccinations caused mortality. The
majority of the respondent farmers were found illiterate and their source of income was
agriculture including livestock and labor. Some imporlant areas of research o1! breeding,

buffalo heifers. 12 female calves of Murrah buffalo were selected having dams were of
same breed, similar lactation number and milk production of previous lactation. They
were divided into two treatment groups (individual feeding and group feeding). Similar
feed was provided to them through out the study. All management practices were applied
regularly (drenching, vaccination etc.). Individual feeding was found effective (P<O.Ol)
