Title : Long-term soil fertility experiment under maize-wheat cropping pattern in mid western hill of Nepal Material Type: printed text Authors: Tuladhar, J.K., Editor ; Chaudhary R.B, Author ; Chaudhary T.N, Author Publisher: Lalitpur : NARC Publication Date: 1998 Pagination: 158-167 .p Keywords: Soil fertility; Rice; Maize; Soils Abstract: A long-term soil fertility experiment under maize-wheat cropping pattern was conducted from 1994/95 to 1997/98 at the Agricultural Research Center, Surkhet in order to study the long-term effects of balanced and unbalanced fertilizers application for maize and wheat on crop yields and soil chemical properties. The highest yield was obtained from plots receiving recommended levels of N, P and K in both wheat and maize. Yields remained almost from the first to fourth year for organic manure treated plots. While both inorganic and organic treated plot showed the consistent increase in maize yield from year one to four. The lowest yields of maize and· wheat were observed in plots fertilized according to farmers' practice (3.7 t/ha FYM) soil chemical analysis revealed a decreasing trend in available phosphorus and organic matter content and an increasing trend in total nitrogen and available potassium over the study period Continuation of the experiment for an additional four to five years is needed to strengthen the findings from this long-term study.
