Title : Characterisation of Local Breed of Goat in the Central Terai of Nepal Material Type: printed text Authors: Neopane, S.P., Author Pagination: 214-217 p. Languages : English (eng) Abstract: Goats located in central terai region (Sarlah1, Mahottari and Dhanusha Districts) apperaed
to be different than recognized Terai goats. They are bigger in size and have twinning. The
information was not available and hence a study was initiated with the objective of
identifying and characterising the breed for their further utilization. The study began in 1997
with a survay work. The parameter recorded were morphological body parts, production
performance and system of goal production. These parameters were monitored using both
recall and monitorning methods. Amongest the morphological characters, body length,
height at wither, height at hipbone and heart girth of adult goats was 60.6 ± 0.87, 60.3± 0.82,
60.8 ± 0. 73 and 68.3 ±0.91 respectively. The adult weight (above 2 years) was 27.3± 0. 75 kg
and the litter size at birth was 1.6 ± 0.064. These results indicated that the goats located in
these 3 districts are bigger than Khari/ Hill goat in size and are better than Terai for litter
size. The informations suggest that they may be different breed/strain. However, a
conformative investigation is required for drawing a firm conclusion.Link for e-copy: http://elibrary.narc.gov.np/?r=412 Characterisation of Local Breed of Goat in the Central Terai of Nepal [printed text] / Neopane, S.P., Author . - [s.d.] . - 214-217 p.

Title : Comparative performances of hill goat and its crossbreed with kiko goats Material Type: printed text Authors: Neopane, S.P., Author ; Upreti, C.R., Author Pagination: 213-216 p. Languages : English (eng) Abstract: Kiko goats developed in New Zealand suitable for harsh environmental conditions were imported for crossbreeding with Khari/Hill goats both in the east and west hills of Nepal in early 1990's. Frozen semen was used for inseminating the hill goats. Conception rate was very low and hence it was felt to have all the goats at one station. All the goats were, therefore, handed over to Agricultural Research Station (Goat), Bandipur in 1993 by Pakhribas Agricultural Centre (PAC). Since then the study has been implementing at ARS, Bandipur. The monitoring on weight traits, litter traits and dam traits was made………….
