Abstract: |
The Farming Systems Research and Development Division <FSRDD> has been engaged in adaptive on-farm research to test and evaluate new technologies with farming systems perspective <FSP>. This kind of holistic approach will complement the commodity and disciplinary research programs by screening and modification of station-generated technologies to enhance their adoption potentials in the farmers' specific environment. The research program carried out in 1988/89 was based on the initial proposal made by the "Samuhik Bhraman" team, updated by the farming systems working group meeting and finally adjusted by the research panel. The research activities partially covered all the major components of the hill farming systems: field crops, vegetables, fruits 7 livestock 7 and agroforestry. However,it should be sincerely admitted that we have yet to go a long way to develop a sound on-farm research methodology in most of these components. This summary report attempts to present a glimpse of research/study conducted at the 5 sites <Khandbari, Naldung, Pumdi Bhumdi Kotjahari and Patan) and to briefly go through the FSR-supporting activities. |
