Title : Varietal improvement on Cowpea in Nepal Material Type: printed text Authors: Yadav, N.K., Sponsor ; R.R Sah, Author ; Karki, L.S. ; D.L Yadav, Author Publisher: Lalitpur : NARC Publication Date: 2000 Pagination: 11-22 p. Keywords: Grain legumes; Oil crops; Research; Legumes Abstract: ObseiV3tion nursery, Initial evaluation trial as post rainy season and co-ordinated Varietal trial, Fanners
field trial on cowpea as spring and post rainy seasons were conducted during 1997/98, 1998199 and
199912000 to select high yielding, early maturing genotypes for different locations. In observation nursery
IT85F-226 produced the highest mean grain yield of 1823 kglha ·at Rampur. In JET none of the tested line
produced significantly higher mean yield than check Aakash (I 569 kglha). Combined analysis of CVT
over 4 locations planted as post-rainy season during 1998/99 crops showed that there was significant
difference in location in seed yield. The highest grain yield was produced at Rampur (2019kg/ha) and it
was the lowest at Surkhet 503 kglha. Significant differences among the genot)'pes over locations were also
recorded. Genotypes IT82D-787 (1468 kglha) produced higher mean grain yield than both the checks.
Interaction effect of genotypes and environments was significant, indicatinB that variety should be
recommended on location basis. Combined analysis of grain yield of 199912~0 also showed significant
differences among the locations. The highest mean grain yield ( 1238 kglha) was produced at Surkhet while
the lowest (667 kg/ha) at Nepalgunj. Genotype IT 860- 792 had significantly higher mean yield over both
Aakash (971 kglha) and Prakash (917 kglha). Interaction effect of genotype and environment revealed that
except Nepalgunj IT 860- 792 produced high yield at all the locations and statistical analysis of 100 seed
weight of 199912000 indicate that genotypes IT 860 - 792 produced significantly highest mean seed
weight of 16.87g and is a candidate for release.Link for e-copy: http://elibrary.narc.gov.np/?r=552 Varietal improvement on Cowpea in Nepal [printed text] / Yadav, N.K., Sponsor ; R.R Sah, Author ; Karki, L.S. ; D.L Yadav, Author . - Lalitpur : NARC, 2000 . - 11-22 p.

Coordinated Varietal Trial (CVf) were conducted to idcnti~v high yielding. major diseases and
pests resistant varieties of groundnut suitable for different agro-ecological zones and with early

97244, ICGV-96385, ICGV-92199 and ICGV-92218 were found promising. In OBN (Nonnal),
out of 43 genotypes, ICGV-97114, ICGV-86325, ICGV-86325 and ICGV-97222 were found
lop yielders. In lET early maturing type, ICGV-96290 produced 2786 kg pod/ha. In lET Nomml
maturing type, ICGV-86928 pmduced 2485 kg pod /ha. In CVT early maturing type, the two
years data (1998-2000) recorded that ICGv-90113 produced the highest pod yield of 1698
kg/Ita. In CVT nonnal maturing type, lCGV-91060, lCGV-91004 and lCGV-89322 produced
