Abstract: |
Nepal faces an urgent need to achieve immediate and substantial gains in output of basic food crops. Government efforts are mainlydirected for food. Production increase in the Country. Various efforts have been made to strengthen the linkage of research and extension system for higher production and these linkage systems have certainly achieved success in production increase.Small scale production program campaigns in various crops were launched during sixties with a great success and with a strong linkage system· between extension and research. With the separation of' five agricultural departments and lack of a good coordination system, the linkage system suffered to some extent f'or few years and with the Joining of all five departments into one Department of Agriculture the linkage system again improved to same extent with the Model of Loose Linkage System.Agricultural Extension and Research Project established a good principle and structure for the establishment of a better linkage system between extension and research and impact was seen on production increase Narayani Zone Irrigation Project. However, this system cannot support a dynamic, Campaign type production program and a special cropping system oriented production program was developed and implemented in 17,000 hectares in five districts in 1983 and the central technical people were directly involved in the production program. The success of this production program has given as insight for the dynamic production program. Cropping and Farming System is becoming important to .Nepalese farmers and a scenario of linkage between extension and research has been developed for supporting a dynamic farming system oriented production program. |
