Abstract: |
Among the summer crops, Hill Crops Research Program (HCRP) has given first mandate to generate technology on finger millet (Eleusie coracana Gaertn). Finger millet is the fourth staple food crop of Nepal after rice, maize and wheat. Considering the importance of the sustained hill farming, Hill Crops Research Program (HCRP) has given first priority to finger millet among the mandate crops. Finger miller is grown in maize I millet relay system in mid hills of the country and as mono crops on high hill and foothills of Nepal. Finger millet gives considerably better yield as compared maize even low fertility soil condition and external inputs used in relay system, so the crop has significant importance of sustain hill farming system ofNepal. Under the varietals improvement work, there are altogether four different activities viz. NON, JET, CVT and FFT. both in relay with maize and mono cropping system, which were tested in different agro- ecological zone viz. high hill, mid hill, Terai and inner Terai of Nepal. Most of the experiments were conducted both under relay and mono condition in order to select/ screen shade tolerant and high yielding genotypes. Under NON- H (relay) conducted at HCRP , Kahre and ABD, Khumaltar over two year revealed that the genotypes KLE-1 18, KLE-2 17 , /WFM-5 GE- 500 & GE -507 are high yielding and promising on the basis of grain yield . In JET- H genotypes Ace. # 433-1 produced the highest grain yield at Kahre (3266 kg/ ha) and AGD, Khumaltar (3483 kglha) followed by GPU -25 (3417 kglha) at Khumaltar in 2001. Similarly genotype Ace. # 2334-1 (3375 kglha) produced highest grains yield at AGD. Khumaltar in relay and produced (5283 kglha under mono condition at ARS, Dailekh in 2001 (Table 8). In CVT relay genotype Ace. # 2227-1 (2276 kglha and GE- 5001 (2189 kglha) are high yielder at Kahre and Khumaltar in 2001. and genotype Ace. # 2653-1(2603 kglha) produced the highest grain yield during 2002 at HCRP Kahre, AGD, Khumaltat and ARS, Salyan. These cultivars can be pushed on to FFT in mid hill. According to the two years result of FFT mid hills under relaythe genotype GE- 0483, GE-5016 & GE- 5176 are possible candidate for varie |
