Languages : English (eng) Abstract: This study is concerned with the major diseases affecting plantation decline and production losses of large cardamom in the eastern hills of Nepal. Rapid rural appraisal (RRA) and participatory rural appraisal (PRA} along with scientific field survey were carried out in the five cardamom growing sites that were selected on the basis of key informants for the study. Based on the farmers perceptions, large cardamom cultivation has been threatened by numbers of factors such as diseases (eg rhizome rot, viral diseases like Foorkey ond Chhirkey and other leaf diseases), insect pests (eg stem borer, leaf eating caterpillars), vertebrate pest (eg Kala, rodent, monkey and squirrel) and natural calamities (eg drought and frost) in the study area of the eastern hills of Nepal…….
