The genetic resistance of three native Nepalese sheep breeds namely Kage, Baruwal and Lampuchhre was studied against Haemonchus contortus infection by primary and challenge infection of H. contortus larvae. The parasitological , hematological and biochemical responses of these breeds indicated that Kage breed was relatively superior to the Baruwal or Lampuchhre breeds against H. contortus infection. The Kage Iambs have lower worm establishment, lower worm burden and low faecal egg counts that the other two breeds at primary and challenge infection. Similarly, these animals lost less weight to infection than the other breeds indicating their superior ability to withstand the effects of worm infection.
