Title : Status, challenges and opportunities of conservation agriculture(CA) in maize based systems of Nepal Material Type: printed text Authors: Karki, T.B., Editor ; SK Jha, Author ; SB BK, Author Pagination: 379-383 p. Keywords: Conservation agriculture ; challenges maize based system opportunities status Abstract: Labor scarcity, increasing production costs and declining or static productivity are the
major challenges of maize based production systems in Nepal. Conservation Agriculture
(CA) promotes reverse degradation processes, improves resource quality, reduces
production costs and helps achieve sustained high productivity. However, it also requires a
change in people's mindset, appropriate machinery and new ways of crop management.
Despite its tremendous scope, Nepali farmers have not readily adopted CA practices.
Recently, NARC in collaboration with CIMMYT has begun research in maize based CA
systems. The aim of this paper is to highlight the significance ofCA in Nepalese agriculture
systems .. Generating knowledge through on-station research and wide-scale verification in
farmer's fields are the basic pathways ofpromoting CA based practices in Nepal. In light of
available information, policy interventions are suggested for implementationto streamline

Title : Indigenous buffaloes of Nepal: Status of their improvement Material Type: printed text Authors: Neopane, S.P., Author ; K. Mishra, Author Pagination: 338p. Languages : English (eng) Keywords: Indigenous buffaloes, Nepal, status Abstract: There has been several investigation work done on native buffaloes in the country by several organization and institution. lnformation available within the country is not documented and this has; created a difficulty in developing suitable breeding strategies for their improvement and utilization. This has also lead to a situation for many duplication works. Hence a study on native buffaloes was initiated by the animal Breeding Division, Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) with the objective of making a comprehensive review in order to help develop breeding strategies for native buffaloes………..

Title : Present status of cole crops cultivation in hills of Nepal Material Type: printed text Authors: S. Piya, Author ; Khatiwada, P.P., Author Pagination: 115-120 p. Languages : English (eng) Keywords: Cole crops, hills, status Abstract: To understand the current practices of nursery and cultivation of cauliflower and cabbage in hills, surveys were carried out in different semi-commercial vegetable crops growing areas of Ilam, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Makawunpur, Kaski and Parbat districts. Farmers of the mid and high hills were only interested to grow the cole crops during off-season (April-October) period. Because of three to five times higher market prices than that of winter season production of these crops, farmers have been extending the cultivation area and also altering the cultivation practices…...
