Abstract: |
Majority of the wheat area in Terai is under rice-wheat system. During the post anthesis period of wheat, heat is one of the main constraints, caused by high temperatures followed by hot and dry winds during grain filling stage, which directly affects the grain size and reduce the grain yield of wheat. A total number of 4 varietal improvement activities were conducted under this project at Bhairahawa and 4 coordinated varietal trials at other research stations during 1997/98 wheat season. On the basis of grain yield, grain size, color, disease reactions and maturity days eight lines from 5th HlWYT, four lines from HSWYT, four lines from AVT-LS/I and nine lines from CVT-LS/I were found most promising. These selected genotypes will be promoted for further evaluation in different agrociimatic locations as screening nuirseries and multilocation trials including farmers' field trials during 1998/99 wheat season. |
