Abstract: |
In order to increase the efficiency of embryo yield for wheat haploid production through wheat x maize crosses, effect of floret positions and various methods of 2, 4-D application were investigated. Wheat genotype 'WK P04' was used as female while maize cultivar 'Khumal Yellow' as pollen parent. The experiments consist of 3 floret positions: upper, middle and lower portion of spike and various methods of 2, 4-D application: spikelet culture, tiller injection, detached-tiller, spray, cup-filling, and dipping. Except spikelet culture and control each treatment was provided with I 00 ppm 2, 4-D. Effect of floret positions and 2, 4-D treatments on the recovery of embryos were significant. The middle portion of spike was superior for all the tested parameters. Higher embryo forming efficiency (20.74 percent) was obtained using spikelet culture method due to the availability of favorable cultural conditions..................... |
