Abstract: |
Performance study of phalsa (Grewia asiatica L.) was carried out at the Regional Agriculture Research Station Khajura, Nepalgunj during the fiscal year 2062/63 to 2065/66. Ripe fruits of phalsa variety "Faizabad Local" were collected from Narendara Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumargunj, Faizabad, UP, India. Seeds were extracted immediately, cleaned and shown in nursery bed in July. Seeds require 15-20 days for germination and seedlings get ready for planting in the field by 10-12 months. Saplings were planted in July 2063/64. Plants were pruned annually during December-January, when they were dormant. Twenty pits of 0.5x0.5x0.5 m deep and 2.0 meter distance were dug one month before planting and filled 15 days earlier. Fertilizers were applied @ 15 kg compost, 150 g DAP, 100 g Urea and 100 g MOP per pit annually after pruning. Other cultural practices were followed as recommended. Yield and yield attributing characters were recorded from the second year and eight sample plants were selected for data collection. Plant height of 2.41 meter, fruit weight 0.41 g, yield 2.61 kg/plant, pulp 59.5%, juice 34.25% and 10.12 TSS was recorded. On the basis of four years' visual and numeric observations, it was revealed that the Phalsa fruit was very promising for mid-western terai of Nepal. Further verification is needed for recommendation. |
