Abstract: |
Sesame( Sesamum indicum) is a traditional crop of Nepal and being used for religious and industrial purposes. Farmers are using locaJ cultivar with low yield potential. Oilseed Research Program has tried to select best materials through introduction and selection. Three activities ( O.N.,I.E.T., A.V.T.) were carried out under varietal improvement work. 172 genotypes were tested in Observation Nursery in 1996/97. Among them DN-10, DN-5-6 and DN-5-1 were top yielder producing 1655 kg 1644 kg. and 1600 kg seed/ha, respectively. In Initial Evaluation Trial, genotypes DN-4, 6858 and CH-2 produced significantly higher yield of 1257 kg., 1017 kg. and 928 kg./ha, respectively. These genotypes also matured 3 weeks earlier thari local check (96 days). In Advanced Varietal Trial the genotypes DN-5-10 was found higher yielder (1090 kg./ha) followed by Pangamyong.- (667 kg./ha) and No471 Porimo (644kg./ha) in 1996/97.0n the basis of seed yield data over three years period (1994/95-1996/97) genotypes DN-5-10 was found higher yielder (739 kg/ha) followed by Instituto-81 and Panganyong(667 kg/ha). |
