Abstract: |
The genetic seed house at Agriculture Botany Division conserved 2987 accessions of rice germplasm. Among them a total of 198 accessions of rice germplas)u were characterized for morpho agronomic traits using IPGRI/IR.RI descriptors at National Rice Research Programme, Hardinath, Dhanusha during 2004/05 and 2005/06. Five quantitative and twelve qualitative traits were recorded to assess the diversity in agro morphological traits. A range of variability was observed among the accessions of rice gemplasm.Variability range for number of tillers per hill was 2-27, plant height 40-150cm and maturity 104~151 days. Seven varieties have been developed and released for commercial cultivation using local rice landraces. The examined gemplasm of rice have high variability for agro morphological traits which can be used in crop improvement programme. Characterization, conservation and utilization of such valuable resources would provide a sustainable basis for rice improvement in future. |
