Abstract: |
Productivity of common (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) and tatary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn) is very low around 0.9 tlha. Series of field experiments as National Observation Nusery (NON), Initial Evaluation Trial (lET), Coordinated Varietal Trial (CVT) and Farmers Field Trial (FFT) of two buckwheat species viz. common and tatary were conducted. NON was laid out in non-replicated Rod-row and lET, CVT and FFT were in RCB design with 3 replications, 16, 12 and 6 genotypes as treatments, respectively. Research was carried out with recommended agronomic practices at diverse locations to develop high yielding and adaptive genotypes during two successive summer season of 2011 and 2012. Agro-morphological traits were used for the selection of genotypes. There was no significant difference in terms of yield attributing characters among the genotypes in all of the trials. However, T-Vaskar, GF-5099 and CBBP-03 in common buckwheat and Sample-6-1, sample-9 ACC# 6506 in tartary buckwheat showed better performance in CVT. FFT trials of Common buckwheat showed T-Vaskar (1282 kg/ha), GF 5289 (1205 kglha) and IR-13 (1212 kg/ha) as promising lines in the year 2012. Likewise, FT -25-2-3, Sample-S and ACC 2223 of tartary buckwheat were obtained promising. |
