Abstract: |
Upland rice mainly grown by subsistence fanners covers about 8% of total rice area in Nepal and there is limited varietal opportunity for upland rice growers. So varietal research activities like International Upland Rice Observation Nursery (IURON), Initial Evaluation Trial of Upland Rice (IETUR), Coordinated Varietal Trial of Upland Rice (CVTUR) and Coordinated Farmers Field Trials (CFFTUR) were carried out in wet season at National Rice Research Program (NRRP) Hardinath, ARS Surkhet and RARS Nepalganj dming 2009 and 2010 to identify suitable upland rice varieties to increase production and productivity of upland rice. The result showed that genotypes IR81429-B-31, IR 81044-B- 112-U4-2, IR78914-B-22-B-B-B, CT15672-12-1-7-3-l-M, IR67406-49-2-3-1-3-3 during 2009 and IR 83749-B-B-65-1, IR 83384-B-B-102-3, IR 82616-B-B-64-3, IR 82589-B-B-7- 2 during 2010 found superior in grain yield and other traits in IURON. PR 18674-PJ-2, Barkhe 1027, IR77298-14-1-2-1 during 2009 and IR77298-12-7-13, KMP34, IR81429-B- 31, IR 7300098-1-2-3, IR 71718-59-1-2-3, IR 81429-B-31 during 2010 were found promising in IETUR Similarly Wayrarem, Yunlun 65 and IR71710-78-2-2 in 2009 and IR79913-B-176-BU2, IR8973-B-186, IR79907-B-184-8, IR79413-B-362-B-B and IR81025-B-16-1 in 2010 found promising in CVTUR. Entries IR79413-B-362-B-B and IR81 025-B-16-1 performed well at ARS Surkhet as well as in NRRP Hardinath while PR26850-PJ-18 and IR77298-14-1-2-1 performed well at ARS Surkhet only while PR26516, IR55435-5 in 2009 and IR433-2, Wayrarem in 2010 produced higher grain yield in all locations. RR433-2, Wayrarem in 2009 and PR26516, IR55435-5 in 2010 performed better than other genotypes in CFFTUR and preferred by the farmers too |
