Abstract: |
Twenty two different varieties of rice from different locations of Nepal were analysed for Dry Matter(DM), Organic Matter (OM) Crude Protein (CP) and Total Ash contents. DM, OM, CP and Total Ash contents were found to be significantly different between different varietiesof rice straws (P< 0.001). DM .contents ranged between 85.0 +/_ 0.88% (Birangful) and 90.5 +/_ 0.83% (Jirasari). OM contents ranged between 84.7 +/_ 0.82 % (Phi/is) and 89.9 +/_ 0.82 % (Chinapati), CPcontents ranged between 3.6 +/_ 0.34% (Tilki) and 6.0 +/_ 0.40% (Philis). Total Ash contents ranged between10.1+/_ 0.37%(Chinapati) and 15.3 +/_ 1.08.% (Philis). The present study indicated that six rice varieties (Philis, Satha, Yekahattar, Sabitri, Chirage and Masuli)which contained CP between 5.0 and 6.0 percentage units, may be considered as .some of the superiorquality rice straws for feeding the ruminants in Nepal. |
