Abstract: |
Tomato cultivation of eastem region is based on modem technologies available in the region that includes use of chemical fertilizer. pesticides and improved varieties. High yielding tomato valieties suitable to market demand with ability to tolerate insect pests and diseases problem come under the technological priority of the commercial tomato growers in the region. Tomato fruit worm Helicoverpa annigera is a major pest of tomato in the region The pest being tolerant to . numy pesticides, high frequency and dose of pesticide' applicatiorz are conmwn. Famzers are in quest of superior tomato cultivars with pest and disease tolerance. It was found that the wlwlesalers, retailers and consumers preferred small- sized (25- 50 g) tomato fruits with dark red color, round shape and juicy pulp; and the growers were also aware of the preference of markets. But the varieties, which meet the parameter of preferences, were not sufficiently available for the growers. |
