The remote Off-Station Research <OSR> sites represent a major portion of mid-hills of the country. Running research in such sites is logistically and managerially difficult. But the experience from such areas will eventually benefit a large group of high hill communities situated in similar conditions. The edaphic constraints on crop production and unavailability of markets, communications inputs, alternate employment opportunity etc lead the research into different aspects of the farming systems than in accessible areas. LAC has chosen Lopre OSR sites as representative of the high hill remote areas. "Most of the Sections at Lumle Agricultural Centre (LAC) have conducted various research work and the findings of some have had a significant effect on improving the present status of the farmers. Apart from that the acute fodder and fuelwood shortage due to deforestation has led Forestry and Pasture Section to carry out research. Although one year's work in forestry and pasture  will not lead to a conclusion, there are some encouraging   results which help the Section for future forestry and pasture programming.  The area was new and knowledge for high altitude fodder/fuelwood species was lacking. The first years experience has given a wide choice f r species. In addition, peoples· participation in the area for forestry activity is encouraging.
