Abstract: |
Soybean is one of the major summer legume crops of Nepal, which is grown as inter or mixed crop with maize in the hills whereas commercial sole crop in the terai. The production of the crop is constrained by one or more of the biotic constraints like Soybean Yellow Mosaic Virus, pod blight, frogeye leaf spot and rust. Unavailability of variety suitable for soybean-toria cropping pattern has realized in recent years. In connection with above background information soybean genotypes collected from different sources were evaluated for yield potential, insect-disease reaction at the research block of NGLRP, Rampur and NORP Nawalpur in the main cropping season of 2000/01 and 2001102. In coordinated varietal trial the genotypes PK 327 and PK 416 have shown outstanding results. In farmers' field trial in outreach sites, farmers have prefe"ed P K 416 as an early maturing, high yielding and medium bold seeded variety. This could be a candidate for release for the terai and inner terai. |
