Abstract: |
Experiments (1997/98-1999/00) conducted at Khumaltar bad shown Utat the Chinese genotypes: Huaichin#2, Suaidachung and Gaoxiong#2 performed beller in tenus of fresh pod, seed and straw dry matter yield, seed size and disease tolerance. Huaichin#2 produced Ute fresh pod yield of 11.49 tlba followed by Suaidachung (10.57 t/ba) and Gaoxiong#2 (10.22 t/ha), 5- 18% higher than local cultivar SaUtiya. Suaidachung and Gaoxiong#2 produced about 14.56 tlba of fresh foliage biomass followed by Sathiya (12.35 t/ha) and Huaichin#2 (11.73 tllta. Shinano Aromame was the largest seeded (80.7 g/100 seeds) followed by Shinano Kurakake {57.9 g) and Huaicltin#2 (52.0 g). All the genotypes tested were 24-125% larger in seed weight Ul3.11 Sathiya. Sujuyutaka reached physiological maturity in 117 days and Huaicltin#2, Shinano Aromame and Gaoxiong#2 took 128 days. Maturity of Shinano Kurakake, Suaidaclmng were compamble to SaUtiya (122 days). Suaidachung grew tallest (69 em) followed by Gaoxiong#2 (63 em), Sathiya (51 em) and Sl~o Kurakake (49 ern). Sujuyutaka and Shinano Arornarne grew only about 35 em tall. Suaidacbung produced Ute pods at Ute greatest height (23,6 em) followed by Sathiya, Gaoxiong#2, Sllitl3.11o Kurakake and Huaicltin#2 (16:8 ern) and at lower height of about 10 ern in Shittano Arorname and Sujuyutaka. Genotypes wiU1 pod bearing at greater height could be of advantage in mechanical harvesting and less damage to pods due to wet soils. Suaidachung produced the greatest seed yield of2.58t/ha followed by Huaichin#2 (2.21 t/ha), 5.8-23.5% higher Utan SaUliya. Suaidachung produced Ute greatest straw dry matter (3.37 tllta) followed by Gaoxiong#2 (2732 kg/lta) and Huaicltin#2 (2670 kg/lta), about 10-39% higher than SaUliya. Suaidachung produced Ute highest no. of pods/plant ( 45) followed by Gaoxiong#2 (40), Sathiya (38), Sb.inaito Kurakake (37) and Sujuyutaka (35). A positive correlation of plant height wiU1 the lengU1 from bottom to the first pod, seed yield and straw dry matter production was observed. Huaichin#2 and Suaidachung were resistant to bacterial pustules whereas Sllinano Miduri, Shinano Arorname, Shinano Kurakake, Sujuyutaka and local Sathiya were found to be ltighly susceptible to leaf diseases. |
