Abstract: |
Studies were undertaken in Juwanetar site of Kabltrepalanchok distlict and Naldung site of Bhaktapur district during 2001/02 and 2002103 to idemify improved potato varieties and illtroduce improved cultural practices suitable in the rice-wheat cropping systems prevailing in the mid-hills of Nepal. In Juwanetar site, results showed that the impiVved varieties (Janak Dev, Kimma/ Red, NPI 106 ad Kufti Jyoti) cultivated either i11 recommended practice or in farmers' practice, both were found more beneficial to the farmers compared to the local check (md as a · result, 30% more yield was obtained by adopting it i11 paddy-potato-maize cropping systems. In Naldung site, varieties 378711.7, 392207.4 and Desiree as a first crop (awumn season) and valieties 378711.7 and 388764.26/JJ as a second crop (spring season) were found highly suitable to intensify in paddy-potato-potato or paddy-potato-wheat cropping systems. giving significantly higher tuber yields and fit to the cropping systems. Yield pe1jormance and disease response of variety Kufri Jyoti, one of the check vatieties remained satisfactory in both the planting seasons. |
