Abstract:	One hundred and ninety eight breeding lines including resistant and susceptible checks were tested in NRBN and NRBBN at Tarahara in 1996. One hundred and sixty breeding lines were found resistant to blast. Eighteen, nine and eight breeding lines were respectively rated as moderately resistant, moderately susceptible and susceptible to blast. None of the breeding lines was found resistant to bacterial leaf blight. Zero, seventy, one hundred and eighteen and eight breeding lines were respectively found to be moderately resistant, moderately susceptible, susceptible and highly susceptible to blight. Fifty one out of one hundred and sixty breeding lines resistant to blast were found moderately susceptible to blight.
