Abstract: |
Field experiments were conducted at Khumaltar during 2001/02 and 2002103 to evaluate newly introduced potato clones for their growth and yield characteristics. Among all the tested clones, LBr 40, LBr 43, 396082.21, 396233.25 and Sesseni had a higher resistance against late blight disease in the years followed by clones LBr 44, 396082.16, BSU P03, 1-1035 and 392287.48. Variety Desiree and clones 392254.33, 396082.6 and 392247.19 were found highly susceptible to this disease. Kufri Jyoti once recommended as resistant variety also got severely infected with late blight disease both the years; however, the yield was not affected seriously. Clones 396082.21 and LBr 40 were two outstanding clones followed by 396233.25, BSU P03, 392236.6 and 392254.33 for the LB disease resistance and higher tuber yields. Based on observed foliage characters, higher tuber yields and high or moderate levels of late blight disease resistance, further on1arm testing of these clones are recommended in the hills of Nepal. |
