A Pre-production Verification Trial (PPVT) on normal rice was carried out by the PAC,
during 1996 summer season at farmers' fields.
On the basis of grain and straw yield, farmers' preferences and other agronomic
characteristics, Radha Krishna-9 and NR 604-1-1-3-4-18 have been identified as superior
varieties in this experiment. Similarly, IR 51672-37-3-2 has also shown encouraging result in
the farmers' fields and was equally good when compared with farmers' local with respect to
grain and straw yield.
