Abstract: |
A study on indigenous buffalo was initiated in the country with the objective of characterization and evaluation of native breeds. A survey work on Parkote buffalo in Dolakha district was made in 199912000. Structured questionnaire was used for monitoring morphological body parts and production traits including body weights, milk production and reproductive parameters. Data were analysed using the least squares analysis technique. Amongst the morphological characters, body length, wither height and heart girth was 130.5, 122.7 and 175.6 em respectively. These results on morphological characters indicated that the local bl!ffaloes located in Dolokha district are medium in body size and are similar in size with Lime and Terai bl~ffalo. Amongst the production parameters, the age at r' calving and calving intervals was 61 and 19 months respectively. The milk production was 3.3 litre/day but there was a wide variation in milk production suggesting improvement in average milk production can be achieved by selecting higher milk producing b~ffaloes. |
