Abstract: |
The effects of supplementing Urea-Molasses-Mineral Block (UMMB) on the performance of lactating crossbred daily cows having of about 36-kg live-weight, were investigated in this experiment. Three replicates of 4 groups of cows were randomly allocated to the 4 dietary treatments based on the stage of lactation. Control group of animals has standard farm practice diet (SFPD) consisting of green grass, straw and concentrate (To) and other three groups of animals has SFPD plus three different types of Urea Molasses Mineral Blocks (UMMB) as supplementing test materials (T1, T2 and T3). The experiment period was of I05 days. There were significant increases (P<0.05) in total d1y matter intake (DM/) (from 8.37±0.50 kg to 11.1±0.96 kg) and straw DMI (from 3. 06±0. I 2 kg to 4. I 1 ±0. 26 kg). There were sign{ficant increases in the daily milk yield (P<O. 05) ji·01n 3. 93±0.84 kg to 6. 08±0. 76 kg. There were also significant increases in 4% FCM yields (P<O. 05) and solid not fat (SNF) contents (P<O. 05) form 9. 03%±0.49 to 9. 4%±0.12). Although there was no significant diffirence in the fat contents of the milk ji·01n the experimental animals (3.85%±0.59), there was a tendency of higher fat content in the milk of groups of ani!nals supplemented with UMMB. |
