Abstract: |
This report summarizes the findings of maize varietal research at ARS, Kahre during summer 1999. The research aimed to select high yielding varieties suitable for maize millet based cropping system in mid hill and high hills of ARS, Kahre command area.
The major problems associated for the cultivation of maize in ARS, command area are lack of high productive, early maturity varieties, lack Helminthosporium .Turmeric, ear rot & stem borers resistant varieties. Likewise drought resistant variety is also lacking. In order to solve some these re searchable problems ARS, Kahre conducted eight different maize varietal research with the collaboration of CIMMYT, Nepal in 1999. Field experimentation were conducted ARS, Kahre and its·outreach sites.
The HMON-99-12B, HMON-99-2A, EVT 1.6B HMON-99-5B, HMON-99-14A, HMON-99-11A, HMON-99-4A & Observation nursery on bulk materials trials were carried Gut. The yield and earlyness differences among entries were observed. In 14A: POB 845 C5, BA 96903 +N, TL96902 SINTETICO SEQUIA, BA 886, BA 96902 +N and POB 800 C5 were observed early and fit in maize/wheat or barley or garlic cropping pattern, likewise in 5B: CMT 9790217 and CMS 979031 also observed early. Similarly in 11A: all four testing promising genotypes produced higher yield. Incase of observation nursery POBLACION 45C8, ACROSS 9433, HARARE 9644 & SIDS 9445 were found
good yielder. Similarly in EVT 16B: P 42 C9 X P 44 C10 and POB 44 ClO were also high yielding genotypes. Likewise in HMON 99-2A: P42 C9 X P 44 CIO and HARARE9644 also produced high yield than farmers local
